The following is a series of events that led to Bonnie Blue having the honor of painting a rock of Houston Mayor Annise Parker and presenting it to her at a meeting of the Houston Solid Waste.
Ramona Brady, the owner of Texas Art Asylum, was asked by city of Houston solid waste department, to find two artists to represent recycling art in Houston . Bonnie Blue was honored to be one of the artists she asked. Solid Waste held their monthly meeting for November 2012 at the prestigious Menil Collection and Bonnie was asked to attend the meeting and display her artwork .
She brought her Women Rocks artcar to be displayed as well as a selection of pieces featuring recycled materials. While there Bonnie volunteered to paint a few caricatures on rocks for the folks in attendance. One of the people she painted was Maria Elena Cortez, the program planner for Solid Waste. She was delighted by the results.
Ms. Cortez loved her rock so much she invited Bonnie to return the following month to their Christmas meeting. Mayor Parker was scheduled be a guest speaker so Maria asked Bonnie ahead of time to paint a rock caricature of the mayor. She had the honor of personally presenting the rock to her at their meeting.
Being able to tell the mayor in person "You Rock!" was an incredible experience for Ms. Blue. "When you give, sometimes it comes back to you in big ways!"
